Throughout history, God has called the church of Jesus Christ to passionate involvement in proclamation of the gospel and alleviating human suffering through mercy ministry. Unfortunately, the church has not always maintained a healthy relationship between these two vital aspects of mission. Both Scripture and church history give us rich lessons on how best to be faithful in freeing people from both eternal and temporal suffering.

  • Andy Davis

    Andy Davis has been serving as senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Durham, NC since 1998. He was born in Boston, MA where he later earned his bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 1984. Andy earned his Masters of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1990 and his Ph.D. in Church History from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1998. In 1994, the Davis family followed the call of the Lord to Tokushima, Japan, where they were involved in church planting through the International Mission Board. He married his wife, Christine in 1988 and they have five children.
